Sprawling Tehran (rest day one)

A bit of a stuffy night despite having the aircon on, and in spite of wanting to sleep in I was awake and hungry by 0730. The hotel breakfast was as good as everything else about the place – other than the coffee – I got quite excited when I saw the small coffee filters there, but I have no idea what they did but the black muck that came out was disgusting!

Pretty much all of us were there although pretty much everyone had been hoping to sleep in too, and we took our time over breakfast enjoying good food and the relaxed schedule of a rest day.

And not much else has happened – I’ve been for a couple of wanders around the streets to see what’s what, but again this isn’t an historic city it’s a massive sprawl of concrete of various vintages.

I wandered past the former US embassy, and the currently closed – but about to reopen – UK embassy, through part of the bazar, back up the hill where I found a very quaint church tucked away in a courtyard, stopped in for cake, had a late lunch and then looped back to the hotel some five hours later!

I’ve spent the last coupe of hours uploading images, writing blog posts and generally catching up on happenings in the world via some pretty good internet connectivity.

Once it cools down a bit – it’s still 36ºC at 1800 – I’ll go for another wander and find some dinner but all-in-all a very restful rest day 🙂
