Rest day in Khorog (rest day)

Arrrggghhhhh…!!! Awake at 0330 because I’ve got a runny bottom again! And it turns out I’m not the only one, by the end of the day there were eight of us who were unwell.

As a consequence my plans for the day all went out the window and I ended up having a very boring day sitting round in the hotel because I couldn’t move too far from a loo!

So the ‘camping at a flash hotel in the countryside’ which I’d been sceptical of from the outset proved to be even worse than I’d feared.

  • yes they have a nice menu, and nice food, and the prices weren’t too bad: but it makes you sick
  • yes the grounds we’re camping in are nicely maintained, but our tents are a long way from the building, and the toilet, which when you end up sick is a Very Bad ThingĀ®
  • yes they have WiFi, but it’s slower than a wet week and then doesn’t work at all after 1100 on the rest day
  • there’s nothing within walking distance, yes you can get a microbus to town for only 2 Somoni, but not when you’re sick, so you have to rely on other people to purchase the things you need for the week ahead
  • because the hotel charges like a wounded bull for simple things like water (only small bottles for twice what a large bottle should be)

And that was my rest day. The week ahead is also looking pretty long, which right now seems like it might be quite hard work!
