Calm Karakol (rest day)

This morning feels like a world away from the chaos of the road getting into town as we sit on the shady veranda enjoying decent coffee and a very good breakfast.

The last three days I’ve been feeling pretty drained at the end of each day despite the fact that the riding hasn’t been that challenging and that we’ve only had three days since our last rest day so today I’m determined to do as little as possible – I’m going to sit on the terrace and catch up on my blog, have a nap this afternoon and try and recharge a little, particularly since we’ve got seven riding days until the next rest day.

This rest day has come pretty quickly (only thee riding days) and the next one is a long way in the future (seven riding days) because in this part of Kyrgyzstan there aren’t many (any) towns which can accommodate 30 westerners so we have to continue through to Osh, the next real ‘place’ before there’s another suitable hotel.

Later: Michael, Ruth and I took a wander round town for a couple of hours to see what there was to be seen and pick up supplies for the week ahead and though I didn’t get my nap I’m feeling somewhat more relaxed than I have for a while so I’m looking forward to the riding week ahead

We’re off for dinner shortly, so I’m going to post this now and if anything interesting happens later I’ll fill you all in tomorrow.

No riding today 🙂

So I’ve caught up on reading your blog – you can carry on now! I got a bit behind as we’ve been off on a different kind of road trip. Though I think Lightning Ridge could quite easily slot unnoticed into some of the places you have been to.

Success and the best of luck with the long week ahead.
I enjoy reading your diary and the “from the tent” and other pictures.
Keep the spirits high, this is a once-in-a-life-time adventure.

Thanks Jan – the last seven days of riding will be coming to you tomorrow once I get in to Osh. Spirits have fluctuated this week, but look to be ending on a high.

So good to read what you’ve been up to. Good luck with the next week Steve. It’s a long one – you’ve already done 47 days – some rest – mostly cycling!!

I love the kids with their bright smiley faces. Curiosity is the same the world over aye?!

Thanks for all the awesome photos too. This is country I will never see myself so thank you for sharing with me ?

Thanks Shireen – lots more photos which are uploading now, but I need to get some sleep ready for tomorrow’s big hill so the story will have to wait till tomorrow evening.

Me too – and the decorated road cones. My road trip took me back to Chch last week (lots of buildings popping up amongst the rubble) so I too have had some catching up to do. Stephen we are all loving the reports and admiring your stamina – kia kaha.

Yes there was certainly a Christchurch-like element to the container construction! I’ll be posting the last week tomorrow and the following day once I’m in Osh for our next rest day.
