A day in Ulaanbaatar

Today has been a very welcome rest day, and after a late breakfast I spent much of the morning finishing and uploading blog posts and images before heading out for a wander round town.

Today has been the festival “Splendor of the Mongolian Soldier”, so there were all manner of goings on in the main town square. I also stopped in for a look at Choijin Lama Museum which is an interesting dichotomy surrounded by modern high-rise buildings.

This afternoon I’m actually starting to feel like I might be making progress in getting over my cold which would be a very welcome relief 🙂 and in other good news tomorrow’s weather forecast is also looking more cheerful!

Here’s the high-level plan for the next week:

I’m not sure if I’m going to have any connectivity over the next week – I now have a working Mongolian SIM card for mobile internet, but access will depend a lot on coverage so it may well be Mörön, in six days time before the next post from here.

Wonderful post but I was wanting to know if you could write a litte more on this topic? I’d be very grateful if you could elaborate a little bit more. Thanks!

Hey Tad – what exactly are you interested in…? more about the city, or…??

Looks like a hard week coming up, with all that gravel/ dirt road to cycle on.

I hope it turns out to be not as hard as it looks.

I particularly liked the pictures of the camels in the back of the truck on your previous post…..

Crossing fingers for the cold finally going, and all the best for the coming week. Photos and blog are fabulous, thanks for taking the time and effort when you must be shattered! Hope you’ve got the right sorts of layers for the conditions, -1 is cold!! Take care.

Thank you Steve for the updates, I almost feel like I’m there with you… apart from the effort, sand, crazy buses, sand, effort and sand… and did I mention the sand?
Thinking of you every day and sending strong leg thoughts.
