We had a rest day two days ago in Khorog but unfortunately the WiFi at the hotel was very slow on the afternoon we got in, and then died completely on the actual rest day so I was only able to get one blog post uploaded.
This evening, with ‘string-and-tin-can’ mobile internet I’ve got another post done, but I’m now almost two weeks behind with keeping you all informed on what’s going on.
Since Osh – the last ‘real’ rest day with a decent hotel and decent connectivity – we’ve made our way into Tajikistan and been following the Pamir Highway which is a spectacular road through the Pamir mountains. As you might expect we’ve been up over 3,500m for most of the time and have come over 5 passes in excess of 4,000m so it’s been a pretty tiring time.
We get to Dushanbe in four days time and as it’s both a large modern city, and the capital of Tajikistan, there’s every expectation that we’ll have better connectivity and I’ll be able to catch up then – though the idea of getting 14 posts done in 36 hours seems somewhat daunting, even allowing for the fact that I’ve written the text each day as I’ve gone along getting the photos uploaded, captioned, and linked to the right posts takes a fair bit of time so we’ll see how it goes!
