Today’s our last full day in Kazakhstan and the country’s saved the best for last – after many days of flat we’ve got some hills to climb today.
The last couple of riding days it had still been pretty dark when we got on the road, so breakfast was pushed to 0530 this morning which meant a bit of a sleep in and sunshine as we left, though it was colder than it’s been for a while.
The was a great mix of hills, valleys and views – by far the most enjoyable day riding in Kazakhstan!
In the afternoon we were camped on the edge of the town of Kegen, so I took a detour into the town for ice cream, soft drink and beer before arriving into camp to find a collection of the local small boys had come to visit – they were great kids and we all had a lot of fun over the course of the afternoon.
The chain on this boys bike was broken and we Jordan had nothing ‘proper’ to fix it with, so I found a piece of wire on the side of the road which I was able to put it back together with – it won’t last particularly long, but he was stoked!
Tomorrow’s border-crossing day which means that we get something of a lie-in as the border is only 27km away, and it doesn’t open till 0800 so there’s no point leaving here too early otherwise we’ll be standing round there waiting for longer than necessary.
